ORBIT · EARLY BETA
Remove Orbit
1. Turn off Launch at login in Settings → Overview if enabled. End Keep Awake.
2. Choose Quit Orbit from the menu-bar menu. Quitting stops trackpad monitoring, pointer suppression, clipboard monitoring, media polling, and Keep Awake. Unsaved results and owned carry exports clear on normal quit.
3. In Finder → Applications, move Orbit.app to Trash. Original images, PDFs, and saved exports are kept.
4. Check System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions for any remaining Orbit entry and disable/remove it, particularly after using the development preview.
The app's removal does not erase favourites or clipboard pins. To remove those too, save needed pins, quit Orbit, then use Finder → Go → Go to Folder: ~/Library/Application Support/Orbit. Move that folder to Trash. It contains saved image links and pinned clipboard data and is shared with the old development preview.
To reset beta preferences, also move ~/Library/Preferences/app.orbit.desktop.plist to Trash if present after quitting. Cached preferences may require logout/restart to reset. The old preview used design.orbit.preview; its separate preferences are not migrated or deleted by beta installation.
macOS stores permission decisions separately; revoke access under Privacy & Security if desired. Files in Trash remain recoverable until emptied. No cleanup command or deletion of your personal source files is required.
Encrypted pins also depend on the login Keychain item named Orbit clipboard encryption key (service app.orbit.desktop.clipboard.v1, account AES256). Keep it when reinstalling or preserving pins. To remove it, first save any needed pins, quit Orbit, and use Keychain Access to delete that specific item. Deleting the key makes its encrypted pins unreadable. Do not delete unrelated Keychain entries. Older plaintext pins are migrated when Orbit can access its key.
